This White Oak MDF panel has White Oak Rift cut veneer on the face. This White Oak panel is made in the USA.
The sapwood of White Oak is light in color and can range from a pale yellow-brown to a greyish-white. The heartwood may be either light brown in color, or a darker brown with deep, golden tones. The distinctive coarse texture and straight grain has longer rays than Red Oak. Fasting-growing Oaks, such as those grown in the South, produce wider, more prominent growth rings.
Small conspicuous burls and pin knots is a natural characteristic of white oak.
Rift Cut – The quarter log is mounted on a modified lathe to produce a cut that crosses both the growth rings and the rays at a slight angle, resulting in a relatively straight grain effect that minimizes the bold ray flake appearance found in quarter sliced wood.
Slip Match – All components from a given log are spliced together in their respective order without turning over any component, thereby producing a somewhat staggered image across the face. This allows for the panel face to be applied with the tight side of the veneer facing outward in order to minimize the potential for a barber pole effect occasionally observed with the book matched veneer.
